Where to stay / Re: Perros Hotel
« on: April 29, 2019, 07:09:50 PM »
As mentioned by others you don't really notice the road noise at night (especially after Beer, Red Wine, Ouzo & Metaxa!! ;)), but during the day the bikes can be very noisy, especially if you're having a doze by the pool. But, earphones with some chilled out tunes usually does the trick.

The Perros is our favourite place to stay in the resort and always book direct with Nicola via email (let me know if you would like her email address). Keep an eye on flights throughout the year (Skyscanner is a good app) and book flights separately. We usually arrange a hire car with Valantis from Corfu Explore Car Hire. They meet you at arrivals and take you to your their office just outside of the airport, for a smooth transition.

Overall its always a great experience. We prefer the B&B or Self-Catering options as there are just too many good places to eat in the village.

Enjoy.

In no particular order, but more from a routine perspective:

1. Yiannis Grill - we always make bee-line on our first day and usually before we go to the hotel or do any shopping. Gyros & Beer, welcome home!!  :)
2. Barras - Generally our first evening meal. Always a warm welcome and the Lamb Kleftico is just gorgeous.
3. Beer O'clock - we've been really impressed with their food over the last couple of years and is now slowly becoming our favourite in resort.
4. Waves - for lunches several times.
5. Nafsika - Try the Greek Wine / Food tasting session if you can, Spiros is an excellent host.
6. Condor - Awesome breakfasts, especially if you've had a heavy night.
7. absolutlely anywhere else: Town Pizza, Yiannis Restaurant, Brusko, Zorbas, Little Prince, Olympia, Beachcomber, Fantasea, Manthos, etc, etc.

Sometimes its just too hard trying to fit them all in two weeks, which is one of the reasons we all love to keep on returning  ;D 8) ;)

The last 2 times, we've hired a car for the full 2 weeks. We usually book flights independently, so the transfer cost by taxi usually covers half the cost (thereabouts) of the hire cost. Have a chat with Valantis at Corfu Explore for a good hire deal.

The drive across Corfu is nice and easy although I guess that comes with experience. Also nice to have a car on hand for exploring some of the more 'off the beaten track' villages, which we'll definitely be doing again this year.

Good luck and enjoy.

Information and help please / Corfu Town recommendations
« on: June 02, 2017, 07:22:31 PM »
Afternoon all.

We'll be making our annual pilgrimage in September and have decided to spend a few nights in Corfu Town once again. We did it for the first time a few years ago staying at the Arcadion Hotel right in the centre and next to the Liston. It was a great way to explore the town and immerse yourself into the lifestyle, before chilling out in San Stef for the remainder of the holiday.

As usual we could rely on the normal booking websites (you know the ones), but just wondering if anyone has any hotel recommendations that may not come up on the bigger website search engines, or may be hidden on page 47 of 1.6 million. Would be interested in any hidden gems and ideally quite central.

Thanks in advance, YAMMAS!! 8)

Hi rilo57, we arrive on 15th September for 2 weeks. I've also been speaking with Valantis over the weekend and confirmed the price quoted is all inclusive and nothing else to pay, other than fuel of course :-)

We've been stung in the past by not booking the insurance excess in advance and ended up paying an additional 100 euros more on the collection day. From looking at most of the larger companies, very few include this cover by default, but their prices are not the most competitive either. There are several local companies on Corfu and from spending a few minutes checking T&Cs most of them include all insurances and very low on no excess at all. Valantis at corfuexplorecarhire.com is one of them. We've also used Valantis when hiring for a few days in San Steph and they've always offered a good service and would definitely recommend them.

This year we're hiring a car for the full 2 weeks of our holiday and the smallest cars with Valantis are coming out at £171 for the full 2 weeks. As we've booked direct at the Perros (once again, can't wait!!) we'd be paying about £40-£50 each way for taxis and we usually hire a car for a couple of days, so doing it this way means we have our own car available for any smaller trips we want.

I'd definitely recommend these guys and also the driving abroad experience. Take your time, give way to locals and you will have a fantastic experience exploring Corfu, its well worth it.

Good luck.

Where to stay / Re: Hotel in Corfu Town
« on: November 26, 2015, 08:04:23 PM »
Hi Richard/Jackie/Nathan,

We stayed at http://www.arcadionhotel.com/ a couple of years ago for 3 nights, before heading to San Stef for the remainder of our 2 weeks holiday. I would definitely recommend the hotel: position in the town is fantastic (a little noisy, but nothing drastic); pricing was good; staff very friendly; food OK, but more than sufficient. The very best thing about staying in Corfu Town was that we were in the hotel less than 30 minutes after touching down: 10 mins to get off the plane; 10 mins for bags and the taxi driver did the rest. It made the whole journey much much better without the transfer to San Stef, which we did via hire care 3 days later.

Recommended.

I'm afraid you'll miss this one (sorry for the pointless post), but for anyone else there in early September I can recommend the Wine Festival in Arillas, this year on 5th September, its great fun:

Hi WINKIE,

We did the same thing last year. We stayed in the Town for 3 days before heading over to San Stef and got some useful information on this post:

http://www.sanstefanos.co.uk/smf/index.php/topic,2096.msg67472.html#msg67472

I would also take time to have a stroll at your own pace and just find a place you're happy with. There is lots of choice in Corfu Town and you won't be disappointed with most of them.

Yammas.

Anyone else see the video clip of Zorbas on You've Been Framed tonight?

We had to pause it to be sure but definitely Zorbas. During one of their dances the one guy fell onto the fire and set his trousers on fire. All nice and calm though.

So, who was it that got their £250?

Out and About / Re: Sidari
« on: April 23, 2015, 04:33:04 PM »
We normally pop over to Sidari when we have a quad bike, which takes about 15-20 mins, so an estimated 1hr 30/45mins sounds about right. One place we've always meant to try, which always looks nice and had many good reviews in the past is The Orchard:

Its San Stef side of Sidari as well, just in case you made it this far and couldn't drag yourselves away!!  ;D

Hi debra,

We've just come back from Corfu after spending 3 days in Corfu Town and then 12 days in San Stef. We opted for www.arcadionhotel.com and I would certainly recommend it. Great location, right next to the Liston and great views of the Liston and the Old Fort from the two windows and balcony.

I must admin it almost cost us as much for the 3 nights here than it did for the 12 days in San Stef, but certainly recommended.

Good luck.
