Title: First Time to San Stefanos
Post by: rickyishere on August 24, 2009, 08:03:54 PM
Only 11 days to go and we land in Corfu, its our forst visit to Corfu and allready we feel at home due to the number of web sites and nice people we have been in touch with, looking forward to it and to watching England play while we are there, just hope we keep up the winning streak!!!!.
Any tips for newcomers?  And is the ATM by the Thomas Bay Hotel still full and working?

Richard

Hi Rickyishere - welcome to the forum!!
It will soon be Rickyisthere!!
No reports have come in to say it's not working, and it would be noticed!!
It worked well this year in July when we were there! Seems to be filled more often this year!

You won't have any problem watching England play, loads of venues will have their TV  on that channel,
notably, Condor, Athens Bar, Barras, Bar38, and many more!!

Any Tips? Enjoy it, talk to the Locals - you will be a friend for life and they will always remember you!
Where are you staying?
Don't forget the Mozzie stuff!!
Try some local restaurants, Mythos, Ozzie Oils, Little Prince, Sunset, Two Stars, Beachcomber Bistro,
Olympia, Zorba's - in fact they are all great!!

We are actualy staying at the Thomas Bay, not far to walk to the ATM, but nice to know its working as it means we dont need to carry much leaving England.

I would suggest you take english money with you as well - save on charges!!
and use the free safe deposit box at Thomas Bay!
They will change it in reception or at any travel shop!
Great Choice Thomas Bay - Say hello to Christos - the grey haired tall waiter with a booming voice - great sense of humour - tell him Tony and Linda say hello - also to Nikos (and Heather) who is Bar Manager, married to Heather!
All lovely people!! We have known Nikos since he was a kid workinhg the beach beds and his dad Theo took us on his fishing boat around the islands!!

Thomas Bay ATM ate my sister's card on Friday so best to have some back up.

There are 2 ATMs at Corfu Airport to your right as you come out from luggage carousels.

Hi

Do you think it makes a great deal of difference either way? I'm not sure it does, certainly not enough to make or break a holiday

We are thinking of booking for San Stef next year... we have been to Arillas 3 times in a row and fancy a change, if we stay in San stef we can walk over the cliff to Arillas if we feel like it.

Can you recommend anywhere for 6 people (incls. 2 elderly and one slightly disabled)in a quiet part, not too far from beach... Ideally mum would like a villa but that would probably be out of our price range.

Hi Surreymaid and welcome to the Forum.
It may be that you will have to have more than 1 Apartment!
Bearing in mind your requirements - you will not want anything up the hills!
I would suggest the Barras Apts. (Thompsons),
Thomas Bay Hotel (Thompsons)
Theodosia Apartments (via San Stefanos Travel - http://www.san-stefano.gr/ )
- they have some nice v/large Ground floor Apts for 4+ people, with adjoining Apt for 2 if you want privacy, discuss it with Noula,
Leonidas Villas (own website - http://www.leonidasvillas.co.uk/page_1225111430531.html ) - Noula will do the transfers for these as well!
All these are on the flat, near the beach, are disabled friendly with good and easy access and should be the best for you.
All have Apartments / Rooms that have ground floor / ramp access, all very good.
These should get you a good start!!

What about the Little Prince apartments?  And The Waves have apartments in the old part of the village opposite the Nafsika and also Vagelis who works at the Nafsika has nice apartments, 2 bed, 3 bed and 4 bed on his own site - will look it out and send you the link and these can also be booked with Travel with Friends.  Margarita Apartments (available with San Stefanos Travel) are fab, overlooking the beach and also the Athina Hotel (direct and Thomsons)  The Perros has brilliant reports (direct bookings and pick up to/from airport included)- a short flat walk to the main street.  The Mythos Apartments available through Corfu Escape are very good as so too are the Rose Garden both in the vicinity of the tennis courts.

Yes! good suggestions, but they wanted close to the beach, and have a partly disabled person, and elderly!
Little prince are all up stairs, Athina should be Ok except the steps down to the pool, (can use the stoney path though!).
Perros is probably too far away from the beach as are the Rose Gardens.
Vangellis has Apt.s up the hill a bit, Margaritas are on the beach, but expensive and upstairs again.
The Waves is a great Idea though!!

There is now a lift in the Little Prince. Don't know whether it only goes to Dimitris apartments though!

Near to the beach - easy access for elderly/slightly disabled :

~ Waves Apartments
~ www.whileawayholidays.com (http://www.whileawayholidays.com)
~ www.leonidasvillas.co.uk (http://www.leonidasvillas.co.uk)

Nice and quiet. Supermarket and restaurants nearby. Beach just across the road!

Everything else is either further away, or has steps or a hill to climb.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Gwen!! Also the Thomas Bay Hotel is even wheelchair friendly!!
Ramps and a dedicated few rooms!!
5 mins slow walk to the beach on fairly flat roads!
