Sometimes they do weigh and sometimes they don't. I really think each check in desk they do as they please. If they do weigh they usually don't like it to be over 5 kilos and may ask you to swap stuff about if one is over and the other under and also may have to put in your suitcases.
This is from previous years experiences from Manchester airport as we are yet to go this year.

Never weighed at Norwich, but best to make sure it is sub 5Kg.

We flew with Thomas Cook, and for the first time, ever,
the hand luggage was weighed and tagged.
This was at Glasgow.

They sometimes do and sometimes don't at Gatwick. I always make sure it's under the 5kg as I can't be fussed with mucking about at the check in desk.

Thanks all, and welcome to the forum Gill C .
As usual we will play safe with the hand luggage and weigh in under the limit. We've bought the correct size cabin bags and it doesent take much to approach the maximum weight, (juggling a wee bit  this time as self catering.) It just seems that so many people arrive in the cabin with holdall's or cases  which are so far over the size stipulation you wonder how on earth they stay could stay within the weight limit! Still, if everyone went overweight we may never get off the ground!!
